Sturgeon Point Golf Classic

Shaws Catering has had the very fortunate task of providing a bbq dinner for the Jim Howard Golf Classic at Sturgeon Point every year the event has been held since 2016. A very fun and well-attended event, the tournament raises funds for improvements to the golf course at this not-for-profit, 9-hole, public club. We enjoy every minute of this event. The location, the buildings, the history, and the people are all friendly reminders of everything we love about summer.

Sturgeon Point is a south-facing peninsula on Sturgeon Lake, part way between Fenlon Falls and Bobcageon. Originally settled in 1833, the golf course was built in 1899 and boasts a design by C. E. Robinson.  The main club house is a log structure and the other buildings on the property exude a classic Ontario cottage feel.  Many of the families golfing today have been at Sturgeon Point for generations. We really enjoyed meeting Cathy who’s grandfather, a lawyer from Lyndsay, built their cottage in 1890. She is the fourth generation to summer at Sturgeon Point and returns here every year from her home in Baltimore. If you know us, you know how much we appreciate multi-generational family history

After dinner, guests had a chance to bid on the great items in both the live and silent auction. Then they were brought to their feet by the live music of Rock Steady.  Another great day at the Sturgeon Point Golf Classic! We can’t wait to do it again next year. Enjoy the rest of the summer everyone! If you are looking for something to do this summer, head up to Sturgeon Point. You won’t be disappointed.
