It was a pleasure to have Ontario Premier Doug Ford visit Shaws Sugar Bush today. Premier Ford showed a genuine interest in how to make maple syrup, and he was very engaged as Tom walked him through the process. Premier Ford even tested the syrup right out of the evaporator.
Premier Ford also expressed interest in our family business, taking the time to ask about our history and looking at the old pictures from many generations of making maple syrup.
Terri-Lynn welcomed Premier Ford to the the Pancake House where he stepped right up to the grill and helped flip pancakes.
We sincerely appreciate Premier Ford’s visit and the support he demonstrated as we enjoy a more typical spring following two challenging years.
“What a phenomenal story this is,” Ford said. “This is a fifth-generation (business) since 1904. I love families that have family-run companies and entrepreneurs.”
Simcoe North MPP Jill Dunlop, Orillia City Councillor Rob Kloostra and his wife Sheona, Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte MPP Doug Downey, Barrie-Innisfil MPP Andrea Khanjin and Oro-Medonte mayor Harry Hughes joined Premier Ford for the visit.
