In 2023, our first run of sap came on February 16th. At the time Tom said it was due to “to a lack of snow on the ground combined with higher than average daytime temperatures and cold nights”. Sound familiar?
Fast forward a year and our first run arrived even earlier. Tom had so much sap on Friday February 9, 2024 that he fired up the evaporator and boiled well into the night. When nature calls, you answer. A farmer’s life.
The Earliest Run in 120 Years
A February 9th boil is the earliest run of sap we have had at Shaws in our 120 year history. With the sugar camp and pancake house ready to open on Saturday February 17th, timing is perfect. Things have switched to high gear and Terri Lynn is busy making lots of fresh maple candy and preparing for guests.
Shaws Maple Syrup and Pancake House is located at #493 Oro-Medonte Line 14 South. We will be open daily from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm starting on Saturday February 17, 2024 and running right through to Sunday April 14th, 2024. Come by and see how maple syrup is made, take a walk in our maple bush and enjoy a delicious maple treat in our pancake house. There is LOTS to do for the whole family.
