Dave and his family have been actively involved with the Muskoka Bible Centre (MBC) for some time. Recently, Dave and his family took DIY pig roast to a whole new level when they volunteered to roast six (6) pigs and feed 850 people at a DIY annual fundraiser for MBC.
The 117 acre Muskoka Bible Centre has been operating on the shores of the Muskoka River since 1931. The Centre provides camp, conference and retreat experiences to for a wide variety of guests. One of the programs offered at MBC is the Widjiitiwin Program. Ojibway for “helping one another”, Widjiitiwin supports marginalized youth and their families by working with community partners in areas such as Malvern, Jane/Finch, South Etobicoke, Guelph, and Hamilton. Because of their fundraising efforts and the generosity of their community, Widjiitiwin makes it possible for groups from each of these communities to enjoy a week of camp in Muskoka.
For 12 years, Shaws Catering has been bringing pigs and barbecues to MBC so Dave and his family can help raise funds to support the Widjiitiwin program. In 2023, the Centre will bring over 350 youth to the camp to enjoy archery, canoeing, swimming, rock climbing and more. A week of camp costs about $900, so fundraising is critical to making the program accessible for these inner-city kids. By roasting and serving the pigs themselves, MBC maximizes the contribution of the funds they raise.
Congratulations to Dave, his family, and the Muskoka Bible Centre. We hope your DIY annual fundraiser was both fun AND successful! If you would like to help support the Widjiitiwin Program with a donation, please click HERE.
